SANTIAGO: Chilean football authorities have chosen the venues which will stage matches in both the 2015 Copa America and the Under-17 World Cup that same year – with Santiago, the capital, doubling up for both writes KEIR RADNEDGE.
The Federación de Fútbol Profesional de Chile has picked out Santiago, Antofagasta, La Serena, Valparaíso, Viña del Mar, Rancagua, Concepción and Temuco for the Copa America.
The tounament will feature the 10 members of the South American football confederation (CONMEBOL) plus invited guests Mexico and Japan.
Brazil had been the original choice for host but withdrew because of pressure of events since the next Copa America sits between the 2014 World Cup finals and 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Venues for the 2015 World Under-17 Cup will be Chillán, Puerto Montt, Talca, Copiapó, Coquimbo, Quillota, Santiago, La Serena and Villa del Mar.
