NYON: Dnipro will play holders Sevilla in the final of the Europa League later this month after extending their remarkable run against all the odds by defeating Italy’s Napoli.

The Ukrainians’ striker Yevhen Seleznyov headed the only goal of the night to end Rafael Benitez’s side’s 10-game unbeaten run in the competition and seal a 2-1 aggregate win.

Sevilla of La Liga completed the job against Fiorentina, winning 2-0 in Italy and 5-0 on aggregate with goals from Carlos Bacca and Daniel Carrico.

The final is in Warsaw on 27 May. After a UEFA rule change the winners will qualify for the group stage of next season’s Champions League.

Dnipro, supported by a sell-out crowd at Kiev’s Olympic stadium, completed a 2-1 aggregate win after drawing 1-1 in last week’s first leg when Seleznyov was also on target.

It was a remarkable achievement for a side who have never won the Ukrainian league and had to play all their home games in Kiev due to their city’s proximity to the conflict in eastern Ukraine.

Dnipro were playing their 18th match of a campaign which began on July 30 in the third qualifying round of the Champions League.

Napoli’s defeat continued a frustrating season which saw them lose a Champions League qualifier to Athletic Bilbao and a Coppa Italia semi-final.

Coach Rafael Benitez said: “I think over the two legs we created enough chances. It’s disappointing to lose after so much control and so many chances.”

In Florence Sevilla swept into a second consecutive Europa League final with a 2-0 victory at Fiorentina to complete a crushing 5-0 aggregate success. Earlier victims had included Borussia Moenchengladbach, Villarreal and Zenit St Petersburg.

Carlos Bacca fired Sevilla ahead in the 22nd minute at the Stadio Comunale Artemio Franchi and Daniel Carrico made it 2-0 five minutes later.

Fiorentina’s night went from bad to worse midway through the second half when Josip Ilicic skied a penalty.
