BARCELONA: European and Spanish champions Barcelona have announced a business areas revamp  with a new department set to be led by a senior executive from Juventus – whom the Catalan club beat in last season’s Champions League Final.

The recent restructuring led by president Josep Maria Bartomeu has seen the club’s business sectors reorganised to “optimise their efforts and strategies.”

Francesco Calvo has been appointed as Barcelona’s new commercial director as part of the changes. The Italian executive will join from Juventus, where he has been serving as sales manager, on October 1.

A “macro-level” business department is to be set up, led by the new commercial manager, who will be working to promote Barcelona’s sales units; the Asian and American offices in Hong Kong and New York; the exploitation of the stadium and facilities, marketing and strategy; audiovisual media and e-commerce; licences and merchandising; and the football and basketball schools and camps.

From October 1 Arno Trabesinger will take over Barcelona’s US offices in New York. An Austrian, Trabesinger has been managing director of the international marketing agency WWP for the Iberian Peninsula.
