PARIS: Paris Saint-Germain have suffered a major Champions League setback with confirmation that Neymar will miss next Tuesday’s second round return against holders Real Madrid.
The Brazilian superstar will be out for at least six weeks after suffering a fractured metatarsal and sprained ankle in Sunday’s 3-0 league win over Marseille.
Neymar Snr, the player’s father, told Brazilian media: “His treatment will last six to eight weeks, whether there is an operation or not.”
Brazilian confederation medical staff are expected to visit Neymar on their way home from World Cup preparatory briefings in Sochi.
The striker joined PSG for a world record £200m fee from Barcelona last August and has scored 29 goals in 30 games.
PSG are 14 points clear of second-placed Monaco in the league and must overcome a 3-1 first leg defeat next Tuesday against Madrid in Paris.
