TURIN: Cristiano Ronaldo scored a spectacular bicycle kick to secure a 3-0 victory for Real Madrid over Juventus in their Champions League quarter-final first leg in Turin.

The 33-year-old World Player of the Year made history with the first of his two goals, prodding home Isco’s cross to become the first player to score in 10 consecutive Champions League games.

The Italian champions had chances to equalise in the first half, although Toni Kroos went close to doubling Real’s lead when he hit the crossbar with a 25-yard effort.

Then came one of the great Champions League moments. Dani Carvajal lifted a cross to the Portuguese, who soared in the air and sent a flying acrobatic kick past Gianluigi Buffon, who had no chance. Such was the brilliance of the strike that Juventus fans stood to applaud the goal that probably ended their hopes of going through.

Worse for Juve, who lost last year’s final 4-1 to Madrid, star forward Paulo Dybala was shown a second yellow card and thus red for a high boot in the chest of Carvajal.

Three minutes later Marcelo effectively booked Real’s place in the last four when he played a one-two with Ronaldo before scoring from close range.

Madrid have been off the pace in LaLiga, sitting 13 points behind leaders Barcelona but they shrugged off domestic problems by inflicting only Juventus’ second defeat in their past 75 home matches.

Ronaldo is currently in one of the greatest goalscoring streaks in football history with 19 goals in his last nine games for Real. He has scored 16 goals in his past 10 Champions League games – 14 goals this season and a double in last year’s final against Juventus.

He has also scored nine Champions League goals against Juventus – no player has scored more against a single opponent in the competition (he also has nine against Bayern Munich and Barcelona’s Lionel Messi has nine against Arsenal).

In the night’s other tie Bayern Munich came from behind to take a 2-1 first-leg advantage over Sevilla in Spain.

Jupp Heynckes’s side made the most of several slices of good fortune after falling behind to a Pablo Sarabia strike – the Sevilla forward having earlier missed a gilt-edged opening – but they battled back to earn a 2-1 win thanks to two massively-deflected goals.

The first saw Franck Ribery’s 38th-minute cross go in off Jesus Navas and then Thiago’s second-half header found the back of the net via Sergio Escudero.

Bayern stepped up through the gears after being second best for the opening 45 minutes and they will now fancy their chances of finishing things off in the return meeting, where they take a lead and two valuable away goals back to the Allianz Arena next week.
