LAUSANNE: The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has rejected an appeal filed jointly by the football player Munir El Haddadi and the Moroccan Football Federation against the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) and the Spanish Football Federation.
Munir El Haddadi and the Moroccan Football Federation were challenging the decision issued on 13 March 2018 by the FIFA Players’ Status Committee in which their request to have the sporting nationality of Munir El Haddadi changed from Spain to Morocco was rejected.
Such decision is now confirmed and the request to change the sporting nationality of Munir El Haddadi from Spain to Morocco remains denied.
The CAS arbitration was conducted on an expedited basis in order for a decision to be issued on or before 14 May 2018, the time limit for the national football associations to communicate their first lists of players for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
The CAS Panel in charge of the arbitration held a hearing in Lausanne today. After deliberating, the Panel issued its decision, without the grounds. The reasoned award with the grounds will be issued in due course.
