MOSCOW:  Mark Geiger, the United States referee who was in the heat of the action when England beat Colombia on penalties in the World Cup second round, has been given a vote of approval by  FIFA writes KEIR RADNEDGE.

Geiger has been named among the 12 referees, 26 assistant referees and 10 video assistant referees whom the world federation’s referees committee has retained for the final phase of the World Cup in Russia.

The 43-year-old from New Jersey was criticised by Colombia fans and media for tolerating England’s physicality and by English supporters and media for tolerating Colombia’s repeated mass protests over decisions against them.
