LONDON: Jose Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes has released a statement to deny reports of the Manchester United boss being interested in a return to Real Madrid.

Mourinho’s position at Old Trafford has been under pressure from the very start of the season, and it has not improved as results have not been what they should be so far.

United are currently eight points off the top four and Mourinho is facing constant questions about both his future and the happiness of his squad.

Now, Mendes has taken the unusual step of releasing a statement to deny talk of returning to Madrid and insist Mourinho is happy in his current role.

“There have been more rumours of Jose Mourinho leaving Manchester United. It’s totally untrue,” said Mendes in his statement.

“Jose is very happy at the club and the club is very happy with him. He has a long-term contract with Manchester United and is fully committed to the club in building a solid winning project.”

Mourinho, 55, signed a contract extension at United only in January but things have not gone to plan with first him clashing with the club’s board over summer transfers and then him clashing with players such as Paul Pogba.

United face bottom side Fulham at Old Trafford on Sunday when Mourinho will look to get a welcome win on the board to at least lift some of the gloom around the club.
