BERLIN: One-time German Bundesliga leading marksman Lothar Kobluhn of Rot-Weiss Oberhausen has died, the fourth-tier club have announced. A statement that Kobluhn had died on January 21 aged 75.
Kobluhn is the only defender to become Bundesliga top scorer when he netted 24 goals in 1970-71, interrupting the run of Bayern Munich star Gerd Mueller who was best marksman five times between 1969 and 1974.
Ever more weird Kobluhn, born on April 12, 1943, had to wait 36 years for the trophy to be awarded because at the time Oberhausen had been involved in a matchfixing scandal. He finally received his award in 2007.
Kobluhn, who ended his career with Wattenscheid, made history a second time in 1970 when he became the first player in the Bundesliga to be shown a red card in a game at Kaiserslautern.
