BUDAPEST: The players of the Hungarian national team will not kneel before the start of their matches at the Euro finals as a gesture against racism because they consider it a political protest, according to the Hungarian federation.
An MLSZ statement said: “The regulations of UEFA and FIFA do not authorize politics on the fields and in the stadiums, something that the MLSZ not only accepts but supports.”
The federation emphasised that respect for others was one of the basic values of sport and that is why it has been fighting for years against all forms of hatred with its campaign ‘Hate is not okay’.
The statement does not mention the Eurocup that will begin on June 11 with Budapest as one of the venues.
Hungary play in Group F along with Germany, France and Portugal.
