PARIS: The Disciplinary Commission of the French league has ordered Saint-Étienne to play all matches at their Geoffroy-Guichard stadium behind closed doors pending a decision after the latest in a stream of hooligan incidents.
Saint-Étienne fans forced an hour-long delay to kickoff against Angers by firing rockets and smoke bombs onto the pitch, damaging the goal nets. Some fans invaded the pitch.
They also displayed banners hostile to the directors, the players and coach Claude Puel.
Les Verts have yet to win a league match after 11 rounds of the championship.
Last week the disciplinary commission ordered the closure of the south stand of the Saint-Étienne stadium for two games after incidents during the 1-1 derby draw against Lyon on October 3.
The committee has not yet ruled on incidents during the goalless draw between Marseille and visitors Paris Saint-Germain’s when missiles were thrown at PSG players every time they were about to take a corner. Police made 21 arrests.
Marseille were already under the suspended penalty of one point for earlier crowd trouble.
