NYON: Russia could be barred from playing at the UEFA Women’s European Championship finals in England after President Vladimir Putin launched a military invasion of Ukraine.

European federation UEFA holds an emergency executive committee meeting on Friday to consider how to deal with the crisis.

The staging of the Champions League Final is likely to be switched away from St Petersburg but the presence of Russia in the Women’s Euro is also open to doubt.

Britain’s Foreign Secretary Liz Truss had already urged English clubs, should they qualify, to boycott a Champions League final in Saint Petersburg.

Russia qualified for the finals in July after winning a play-off with Portugal and have been drawn into Group C alongside champions Netherlands, Sweden and Switzerland.

The Olympic farce of having Russia compete under an amended title is out of the question for football.
