LONDON: Tottenham jumped into the Premier League top four by recovering from a goal down to beat Newcastle 5-1.

They overtook Arsenal, who play at Crystal Palace Monday on goal difference. Remarkably Harry Kane was without a goal. Instead Ben Davies, Matt Doherty, Son Heung-min, Emerson Royal and Steven Bergwijn took Spurs’ tally to 21 goals in their last six league games.

Doherty has been directly involved in six league goals this year (two goals, four assists), more than any other wing-back.

Everton remained teetering above the relegation zone after a 2-1 defeat at West Ham.

This was another bad day for manager Frank Lampard. He will take his 17th-placed team to fellow strugglers Burnley (19th) on Wednesday without England defender Michael Keane, who was sent off for two yellow cards, and injured midfielders Donny Van der Beck and Allan.

Aaron Cresswell opened the scoring with a first-half free kick. Mason Holgate equalised at the start of the second half but Everton were level for only five minutes before Jarrod Bowen reclaimed Hammers’ lead. Keane’s expulsion then ended Everton’s hopes.

West Ham may still dream of Champions League football next season for the first time. They had slipped back after two defeats in their previous three matches and are now three points behind fourth-placed Arsenal. Hammers face Lyon in the quarter-finals of the Europa League on Thursday.

Everton, who recently announced losses of £120.9m for 2020-21, have taken only six points from 14 away games. This it the lowest tally from any of the 92 sides in the four divisions. They have played in English football’s top flight in every season since 1954-55.

Manager Frank Lampard said: “I am less worried about injuries than about the character of the group. Burnley is a huge game then we play Manchester United. I still have a strong belief we will stay up.”
