MADRID: The rump of the collapsed European Super League will appeal to the provincial court of Madrid against a decision by a mercantile court judge to quash a year-old holding order barring disciplinary action by FIFA or UEFA against plotters Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus.

The decision by Judge Sofía Gil García was laid on April 1 but has only now been announced.

The plaintiffs A22 Sports Management SL and European Super League Company SL had argued that the controversial project had every right to line up against the UEFA competitive structure which was “neither transparent nor operational”

An initial stay of action by UEFA was ordered on April 20, 2021 forcing the European federation to scrap disciplinary measures aganst the three clubs.

Nine other clubs had earlier withdrawn from the Super League and reached a financial settlement with UEFA.
