LONDON: European football federation UEFA’s awards for Player of the Tournament, Young Player of the Tournament and the Top Scorer were announced immediately after England’s 2-1 extra-time victory over Germany in the final at Wembley.

England’s Beth Mead was both player of the tournament by UEFA’s team of technical observers as well as winner of the Golden Boot for top scorer.

Mead was the competition’s leading scorer with six goals, England’s No7 played a key role also recording five assists from the right wing, as the Lionesses went the whole way to capture their first EURO in front of a home crowd at Wembley Stadium.

Germany’s Lena Oberdorf was the inaugural Young Player of the Tournament. Oberdorf, who turned 20 in December, was judged by UEFA to have “held the Germany midfield with mature aplomb. Able to play across the defence and midfield, the Wolfsburg talent featured in five of Die Nationalelf’s six matches.”

As for the goalscoring prize Mead and Germany’s Alexandra Popp ended with six goals – equalling Inka Grings’ finals record from 2009 – but Mead was ahead 5-0 on assists.
