LONDON: Eight top-tier clubs are set to lose a combined amount of up to £48m per year after a Premier League move aimed at reducing gambling advertising.

Clubs have agreed to remove gambling ads from matchday shirts starting from the 2026-27 season.

The research specialist SportingPedia, having analysed the betting sponsorship deals, found that West Ham and Everton will lose the most – up to £10m a year.

West Ham have a sponsorship deal with online betting company Betway that puts the brand name on the club shirts. Everton’s £10-million contract is with the online casino Stake.com.

By contrast Brentford will lose the least following the decision since it currently receives ‘only’ £2.5m-a-year under its contract with Hollywoodbets.

SportingPedia’s analysis shows that gambling companies are the most preferred shirt-front sponsors among Premier League clubs.

A total of 8 teams have signed with betting firms. Here their current deals:

Everton – £10 million from the deal with Betway
West Ham – £10 million from the deal with Stake.com
Southampton –  £7.5 million per year from the deal with Coingaming Group (Sportsbet.io)
Leeds – £6 million from the deal with SBOTOP
Newcastle – £5 million from the deal with Fun88
AFC Bournemouth – £4 million from its deal with Dafabet
Fulham – £3 million from the deal with w88
Brentford – Roughly £2.5 million from the deal with Hollywoodbets

Thursday’s decision includes the brand names displayed on the front of matchday shirts.

The announcement made no mention of other types of deals so gambling ads are expected to remain on sleeves or training kits. This, however, will bring less money to the clubs.
