MADRID: Spain’s Supreme Court has confirmed the acquittal of former international midfielder Xabi Alonso for tax fraud

The current Bayer Leverkusen coach had been accused of defrauding the treasury of almost €2m between 2010 and 2012.
Legal sources have reported that the Criminal Chamber has rejected the appeal of the State Attorney’s Office against the ruling of the Superior Court of Justice of Madrid , which this summer ratified a second acquittal of Alonso.

A number of high-profile players, including Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, had reached settlements with the tax authorities.
