FRANKFURT: Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann may be forced to ask Manuel Neuer to cut short his international retirement after serious injury to Marc-Andre Ter Stegen.

Ter Stegen tore right knee tendons in Barcelona’s LaLiga match at Villarreal at the weekend and has been ruled out for at least eight months – just as he was poised to step ip as Germany’s No1 after Neuer post-Euro retirement from national team duty.

Germany coach Nagelsmann said: “This is a big blow for Germany. We wish Marc-Andre all best in his recovery and we will will miss him.”

Ter’Stegen, 32 and with 42 caps for Germany, has already undergone surgery.
