KEIR RADNEDGE COMMENTARY —- This season continues to witness tight competition for the ESM European Golden Boot after three seasons in which the outcome was clear from a long way out.
Instead of only Robert Lewandowski or Harry Kane out front the race of now between the Premier League’s Mo Salah and Erling Haaland with Viktor Gyökeres, Lewandowski and Kane not far behind.
Gyökeres of Sporting Lisbon has scored more goals than any of them – 22 – but it handicapped by the computation of the rankings.
Marksmen from the Big Five (England, France, Germany, Italy and Spain) benefit from a points multiplier of two. Players in leagues between places six and 22 of the UEFA national ranking 2022 receive a 1.5 coefficient.
As in former years the ranking does not include play-offs or cup matches in the official ranking.
