LAUSANNE: The Court of Arbitration for Sport has dismissed an appeal by the Romanian Football Federation against disciplinary action by European federation UEFA over events at a Nations League tie against Kosovo on November 16.
UEFA’s appeals body fined the Romanian FA and ordered a stadium closure for the next home match.
The appeal sought a partial stadium closure and reduction of the fines. The Romanians did not contest the infringement of UEFA regulations (racist and/or discriminatory behaviour of supporters and transmitting provocative political messages not fit for a sports event (Art.14 & Art.16.2 UEFA Disciplinary Regulations)).
CAS ruled that the violations committed by RFF supporters were serious and that the sanctions were compliant with the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations and not disproportionate.
A separate appeal to the CAS by the Kosovo FA against the Romanian FA and UEFA concerning the forfeiture of the Nations League match remains ongoing..
