KEIR RADNEDGE at WEMBLEY: Thomas Tuchel was satisfied and relieved to come through his opening test as England manager with a 100pc record after the 3-0 win over Latvia.

Tuchel, reviewing the full week including the initial victory over Albania, said: “Very happy because of the players. The organisation of the camp was top and the players reminded me why I was excited about the job, top characters, good energy and very positive atmosphere.

“Everyone wants to give his best, they are proud to play for England and everyone wants to start. Not everything falls into place from the first minute. There is still room to improve but we have two wins, two clean sheets, we did not allow any big chances in the two games so we have a lot of positives to take away.

“The players come from different systems in their clubs so it’s not so easy for them but the process has started, the results are there and it’s a good way to continue. Everyone expects us to win but we will get stronger from camp to camp.”

Latvia coach Paolo Nicolato was content, despite defeat, after the biggest match of his career.

He said: “It was a big challenge for us and we are proud of our players considering so much difference in the FIFA ranking. It was an amazing night for me and our players did well, played like a real team. For me and for many of our players it was a first time to play here – and also the last.”
