BARROW BAGS BRILLIANT BRONZE ON DAY THREE OF 2025 UCI PARA-CYCLING ROAD WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

—- Felix Barrow picked up his first world championships road race medal, a bronze in a ferocious sprint finish in the men’s T2 race, taking Great Britain’s medal tally up to five with one day of racing to go.

Having just missed out on a medal in the time-trial earlier in the week, Felix Barrow refused to leave Belgium without some silverware and fought to the end, earning a bronze medal in the men’s T2 road race for his efforts.

With two crashes within the first 500m, Barrow maintained his composure to get safely round a very technical course, making his way with ease into the front group of four who went on to dominate the race. Barrow, alongside Tim Celen (Belgium), Wolfgang Steinbichler (Austria) and Maximillian Jager (Germany) were quick to put a good lead between them and the rest of the group, with a lone chaser in Spain over 14 seconds behind and unlikely to catch.

With no one threatening the group, it would be a fight between those four riders for the three podium spots. Barrow worked hard, taking tuns on the front where needed, before the final kilometre presented a game of nerves as the group waited to see who would make the move.

It was time-trial world champion Tim Celen who made the decisive move, pushing on ahead on a long straight and immediately causing panic in the rider behind. Barrow reacted quickly and worked hard in an attempt to shut Celen down, all the while with Steinbichler close on his wheel. In the final corner, Steinbichler gave it one last push to sneak past Barrow to create a neck-and-neck finish where he just pipped Barrow, who took the bronze medal overall.

Newcomer Calum O’Neill delivered his second impressive ride of the year, leading the main group of riders before breaking away himself, with 50 seconds on his nearest competitor. He took sixth place overall in his first world championships.

Having picked up his first world championships medal in the earlier time-trial, Callum Russell delivered another promising performance in the men’s H4 road race. In an incredibly split race, Russell worked hard to maintain his position and not drop back over the 61.4km race. With 18 seconds between him and his nearest chaser, Russell finished a positive fifth place overall.

The Great Britain Cycling Team will be back in action tomorrow with tandem and C classifications closing out the championships in their road races. You can catch all the action over the weekend live on Channel 4 Sports YouTube channel
