FRANKFURT Harry Kane returned from successful England World Cup qualifying duty to score one goal and help set up another as champions Bayern Munich beat Borussia Dortmund 2-1 in Germany’s Klassiker to extend their 100pc record with a seventh successive Bundesliga win.

Bayern, who host Club Brugge in the Champions League on Wednesday, had to survive considerable second-half pressure from the visitors before making sure of their 11th win in 11 matches across all competitions this season.

They lead the Bundesliga race with 21 points, five ahead of second-placed RB Leipzig. Dortmund, who suffered their first loss in 10 matches across all competitions, dropped to fourth on 14.

The win also handed Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer a record for the most league wins with his 363rd Bundesliga match victory.

Kane gave the hosts a deserved lead when he headed his 12th league goal in seven matches from a Joshua Kimmich corner in the 22nd minute. He has now scored 22 goals in 14 appearances for club and country. His 60-metre pass was at the root of the second goal for Michael Olise.

In Spain . . .

Substitute Ronald Araujo scored three minutes into added time as Barcelona secured a 2-1 win over Girona in the Spanish LaLiga. However coach Hansi Flick was sent off for arguing with the referee early in added time. The suspension rules him out from next weekend’s El Clasico at Real Madrid.

The match began with players from both teams standing still for 15 seconds, as part of a protest organised by the Spanish footballers’ association over LaLiga’s decision to move December’s match between Villarreal and Barcelona to the United States.

Barcelona took the lead in the 13th minute through Pedri on an assist from Yamal but a spectacular effort from Axel Witsel levelled seven minutes later. Three minutes into second-half stoppage time newly-arrived substitute Araujo sealed the win for Barcelona on an assist from De Jong.

Barcelona host Olympiacos in the Champions League on Tuesday, before continuing their LaLiga campaign at Real Madrid next Sunday.
