DOHA – Oscar Piastri’s maintained his strong revival at the Qatar Grand Prix in capturing pole in qualifying and going on to win the sprint race convincingly — holding off George Russell and with his teammate and championship leader Lando Norris.
Meanwhile, Max Verstappen, despite being among the title contenders, only managed fourth in the sprint — limiting his gains on the standings.
Those results had significant championship implications. Before Qatar, Norris led the standings by 24 points. Piastri’s sprint win cut that lead to 22 points and left Verstappen sitting 25 points behind Norris. With only two rounds remaining — the main Qatar Grand Prix and then the finale in Abu Dhabi — the title fight remains alive.
In short: Qatar has sharpened the fight — Piastri is hot on Norris’s heels, while Verstappen remains in contention. But with only 50 points left in the season, the coming Grand Prix could well decide the title.
