KEIR RADNEDGE REPORTS: Wolves, the Premier League’s bottom club, have sacked manager after an abysmal start to the and only two months after he was handed a new long-term contract as reward for keeping them up last term.

Wolves have gone 10 league games without a win, picking up only two points and Saturday’s abject 3-0 defeat away to Fulham – when they scored an own goal and had a player sent off – proved the final straw for Chinese owner Fosun.

The team are eight points adrift of safety with the worst defensive record and one of the poorest goal-scoring tallies in the division.

Pereira had been credited with rescuing Wolves from the relegation fight in the previous season, securing their Premier League status with a late surge of wins. He appeared to have established momentum for the longer term.

Yet this term has been entirely different. Blame lies not only with Pereira but a disastrous summer transfer window when Wolves lost several key players and started this term with an almost unrecognisable squad.

—Southampton, relegated from the Premier League last season, have sacked manager Will Still after five months in charge. Still, 33, was appointed in May after leaving French Ligue 1 side Lens but has won only two of 13 second-tier games this season. Saturday’s 2-0 defeat by Preston dropped them to 21st in the table.
