BIRMINGHAM — Day two of the 2026 European Athletics Championships at Alexander Stadium delivered another electric night of world-class action, headlined by a blistering men’s 100m final and a tactical masterclass in the women’s 10,000m.

The marquee event of Tuesday evening saw Great Britain’s Jeremiah Azu and Eugene Amo-Dadzie clash with Europe’s finest in the men’s 100m showpiece. But it was Great Britain’s Romell Lyle-Forster and Germany’s Owen Ansah who pushed the tempo in an astonishingly tight field.

In the end, Britain’s Louie Hinchliffe stormed through the final 20 meters with undeniable top-end speed, lunging across the line in 9.98 seconds to capture gold.

“To win gold on home soil in front of this unbelievable crowd is something I’ve dreamed about since I first put on spikes,” said Hinchliffe.

Ansah took silver in 10.02, while Italy’s Chituru Ali snatched bronze in 10.05.

In the women’s 10,000m, Nadia Battocletti confirmed her status as the supreme distance runner on the continent. The Italian, who claimed double distance gold in Rome two years ago, executed a flawless race strategy.

After a slow early pace dictated by Great Britain’s Megan Keith, Battocletti made her decisive move with 600 meters remaining. Dropping a devastating 61-second final lap, she broke the field to win comfortably in 30:51.32. Keith fought valiantly down the home straight to earn a magnificent silver medal for the host country, while Germany’s Konstanze Klosterhalfen held on for bronze.

Action in the field in the men’s long jump saw Greece’s Olympic champion Miltiadis Tentoglou produced his customary big-stage magic, soaring to 8.42m on his fifth attempt to retain his European title.

In the women’s competition Ukraine’s Yaroslava Mahuchikh thrilled spectators by clearing 2.03m on her first attempt to secure gold before narrowly missing a world-record attempt at 2.11m.
