LONDON: Nottingham Forest handed new manager Sean Dyche the perfect debut with a 2-0 home win over Porto in the Europa League with both goals coming from the penalty spot as the hosts ended a run of 10 games without victory.

Dyche replaced the sacked Ange Postecoglou on Tuesday, to become the club’s third manager this campaign, and led Forest to their first win since the opening day of the season, along with their first clean sheet since April.

Forest have four points, having drawn at Real Betis and lost at home to Midtjylland, while Porto’s unbeaten run in all competitions this season comes to an end and they remain on six points.

Aston Villa, however, were the only Premier League team to lose in European competition as they took an early lead but fell to a 2-1 defeat by Go Ahead Eagles after Emiliano Buendia missed the chance to equalise from the penalty spot.

Go Ahead conceded in the fourth minute when their goalkeeper Jari De Busser punched away Jadon Sancho’s cross, but the ball fell kindly for Evann Guessand to poke home and score his first goal for Villa.

The hosts levelled three minutes before the break after Calvin Twigt floated a free kick towards the opposition area. Mathis Suray surprised Villa’s high line with his run from deep to collect the ball in the box and score.

Go Ahead then took the lead in the 61st minute. Joris Kramer sent a ball over the top into the area which Mats Deijl chested down before lifting his composed finish over the onrushing goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

Villa wasted a lifeline 11 minutes from time when Matty Cash’s pullback from the byline was handled in the area by Dean James. Buendia stepped up and sent his spot kick over the bar.
