—- Indian cricketer Akash Kumar Choudhary, in a remarkable display of power hitting, wrote himself into cricket’s history books by hitting an unprecedented eight consecutive sixes in a first-class match.
The setting was the Ranji Trophy Plate Group 2025‑26 match between Meghalaya cricket team and Arunachal Pradesh cricket team in Surat. Coming in at No8 with his team already in command on 576 for six, Choudhary initially faced a dot ball and two singles, before embarking on his explosive onslaught.
He first smashed six sixes in a single over off left-arm spinner Limar Dabi — thereby joining the elite club of players in first-class cricket who’ve hit six sixes in an over (the others being Sir Garry Sobers and Ravi Shastri).
Choudhary, generally considered a fast bowler, did not stop there: he then hit two more sixes off the first two balls of the next over, completing eight successive maximums.
In doing so, he also set a new world-record for the fastest half-century in first-class cricket — reaching 50 in just 11 balls and remaining unbeaten on 50* off 14 balls. The previous record stood at 12 balls (by Wayne White in 2012).
