LAUSANNE: French football club Paris Saint-Germain have been voted as the AIPS Best Team of the Year 2025, while the FIFA Club World Cup scooped the AIPS Best Press Facilities accolade. This is the result of the poll by the International Sports Press Association (AIPS), where a record 836 journalists from 121 countries voted.

Football dominated the Best Team category, which saw PSG receive 871 points to win the award for the first time ahead of FC Barcelona (763 points) and Morocco U-20 Men’s Football Team (487 points).

The FIFA Club World Cup amassed a total of 1159 points in the poll for the Best Press Facilities, followed by UEFA Champions League Final with 1106 points and World Athletics Championships with 867 points in third.

Earlier, Swedish pole vaulter Armand “Mondo” Duplantis and Spanish footballer Aitana Bonmatí were announced as the AIPS Best Athletes of the Year 2025.

BEST TEAM OF THE YEAR

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) enjoyed an outstanding 2025 in which they won six of the seven tournaments they competed in. Their dominance in both domestic and European competitions saw them clinch the Ligue 1 title, the Coupe de France after defeating Reims in the final, the Trophée des Champions against Monaco, the UEFA Champions League with a convincing 5-0 victory over Inter Milan in the final, and the UEFA Super Cup after overcoming Tottenham on penalties. PSG capped the remarkable year with a penalty shootout victory over CF Flamengo to win the FIFA Intercontinental Cup

The Club World Cup was the only trophy that eluded Luis Enrique’s side as they fell to Chelsea in the final. That, however, did not undermine PSG’s consistency and ability to deliver on the biggest stages.

Under Enrique’s guidance PSG showed remarkable balance between attack and defense, with a deep squad that featured individual talent such as Ousmane Dembélé, Vitinha, Achraf Hakimi, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The Spanish coach was particularly praised for successfully building a team that worked hard together, with great cohesion and tactical solidity.
