LUXEMBOURG: Franck Ribery, Bayern Munich and France star forward, has suffered his second legal setback in two days.

On Thursday he lost a plea to a Paris court against the publication of an unauthorised biograph. Now a court in Luxembourg has ordered Ribery to pay €3m to his former agent, Bruno Heiderscheid to make up “commissions owed for work and to which the agent had a right from the time when M. Ribery was playing for Marseille.”

Heiderscheid said: “I am satisfied because no-one should consider themselves above the law. Now the battle continues in a second case.”

The agent is also claiming a commission of 3.5m which he says is due for his work on behalf of Ribery in the player’s transfer from Marseille to Bayern in 2007.

On Thursday a Paris court turned down a second attempt to Ribery to block the publication of an unauthorised biography which includes details of a scandal involving Ribery, France team-mare Karim Benzema and an under-age prostitute, known as Zahia Dehar.

The book, La Face Cachée de Franck Ribéry, was published at the end of September by Editions Moment and written by the France-Soir journalists Matthieu Suc and Gilles Verdez.

Originally Ribery had tried, and failed, to have the book withdrawn on the technicality that a photograph on the cover had breached his privacy.

On Thursday he was unsuccessful in a demand for €150,000 damages because the book had quoted from investigation statements which should have been considered confidential.

Denying the complaint, magistrate Jean-Marc Cathelin said that wanting the publication withdrawn was out of all proportion to the subject of the complaint and which would have infringed, in any case, on the rights of freedom of expression.

Ribery is expected to appeal again.
