ANKARA: Cüneyt Çakır, the ‘Howard Webb of Turkey’, has been appointed to referee Saturday’s ‘Super Final’ title play-off between Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray.

The biggest derby of all, in Turkish terms, will be played at Fenerbahçe’s Şükrü Saraçoğlu stadium where Galatasaray have been unable to win for the last 12 years. However, they can clinch the title with a draw. Fenerbahçe are unbeaten at home in their last 42 matches.

Çakır, 35-year-old son of former referee Serdar Çakır, is one of the 12 referees selected by European federation for the Euro 2012 finals next month in Poland and Ukraine.

This past season he has refereed games involving the likes of Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Benfica, Chelsea, Internazionale, Lyon, Manchester United and Real Madrid (Champions League), Sweden and Holland (Euro 2012 qualifiers) and Bilbao, Porto and Manchester City (Europa League).
