BUDAPEST: Lydia Nsekera, president of the Burundi Football Association, has been co-opted on to FIFA’s executive committee, as a formal first woman member.

This decision follows up on a promise made by the FIFA president Sepp Blatter at last year’s Congress.

Nsekera is also a member of the Committee for Women’s Football, the  Women’s World Cup and the Olympic Organising Committees. The formal election of a woman representative on to the exco  will be held next year once new FIFA Statutes have come into force.
