KYIV: Greek veterans Nikos Liberopoulos and Kostas Chalkias have signed up to the lengthening list of Euro 2012 players deciding not to prolong their international careers.

Liberopoulos, 36, won his 76th cap during last Friday’s 4-2 quarter-final defeat to Germany. He made his international debut in 1996 but missedout of the Euro 2004 triumph.

He said: “I feel blessed that I get to close this chapter among a team that are like family to me. It’s been a big honour. At the end of the match, I felt that I didn’t want to leave the pitch. Now I will continue supporting this team as a fan.”

Veteran goalkeeper Chalkias, 38, won 32 caps including two appearances at Euro 2012. He said: “I am proud and happy to have participated in Greece’s effort to reach the quarter-finals. This has been one of the best months of my career. It was a dream finish for my international career.”

Earlier Czech striker Milan Baros announced his retirement from international football after his country’s defeat by Portugal.

Baros, currently with Turkish side Galatasaray having played for Liverpool and Aston Villa earlier in his career, played 93 times for the Czechs, scoring 41 goals. He was the top scorer at Euro 2004 with five goals.

Arsenal midfielder Tomas Rosicky has said he is still considering whether to follow Baros’s lead.
