TAMPA, Fla: The United States soccer clock will spin back in time on August 3 after the schedule for the present-day North American Soccer League threw up an  early fixture matching two of  the great names of yesteryear.

The historic rivalry between champions Tampa Bay Rowdies and New York Cosmos will be revived two weeks into the Fall Season on Saturday, August 10, at Al Lang Stadium.

Rowdies coach Ricky Hill said: “We are excited to bring back such an amazing rivalry and I am sure our fans can’t wait either.”

Cosmos – with the likes of Pele, Franz Beckenbauer and Carlos Alberto Torres – represented all that was glamorously over-ambitious from the high point of the original NASL in the mid-1970s. The club has now been raised from the virtual dead for the third time.

Rowdies’ rivalry with Cosmos will continue when they visit Hofstra Stadium on Saturday, September 28. The iconic stadium was New York’s home back when the original Cosmos won a first NASL championship in 1972.

The 2013 NASL Fall Season will feature eight teams playing each other home and away for a total of 56 games and the team that tops the final standings will travel to face the Spring Season champions in the annual Soccer Bowl on the weekend of November 16/17.
