LONDON: Greg Dyke, former BBC director-general, has been named chairman of the Football Association, subject to approval by the FA council. Dyke, who will stand down as Brentford chairman to take on the role, takes over from David Bernstein in July,

Bernstein, who was appointed chairman in 2010, is forced under FA rule to relinquish the post when he reaches 70. Dyke said: “Football has always been a big part of my life whether playing 11-a-side on Sunday mornings or six-a-side on Thursday evenings.”
