PARIS: Carlo Ancelotti has embarked on the process which will see him leave new French champions Paris Saint-Germain at the season’s end and succeed Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid.

The Italian, who took over at PSG in the middle of last season, has long been linked with the vacancy expected to be created in the Spanish capital by the likely departure for Chelsea of the Special One.

First indications of the impending departure of Ancelotti, former Milan and Chelsea coach, came in a Twitter comment from the TV channel BeIN Sport which holds French league rights on behalf of Aljazeera.

The message said: “After a meeting between Nasser Al Khelaïfi and  Leonardo , Carlo Ancelotti will not be coach of  Paris Saint-Germain next season.”

Al Khelaïfi is effective boss of both BeIN as well as of PSG who end their title-winning season next weekend at Lorient.

Leonardo, the club’s technical director who has also been linked with a move back to Italian football, said later that Ancelotti had asked to leave for Madrid but denied that any decision had been taken.

The hesitation owes everything to the facts that neither French or Spanish seasons have yet finished and the need for PSG and Madrid to resolve compensation over Ancelotti’s contract in France which does not expire until summer of next year.
