ZURICH: The Cameroonian Football Association, FECAFOOT, has been  suspended provisionally by the FIFA emergency committee over concerns of government interference.

Effectively, the federation has less than two months to put its house in order or World Cup exclusion is certain.

Articles 13 and 17 of the FIFA Statues state that member associations must manage their affairs independently.

During the suspension, FECAFOOT may not be represented in any regional, continental or international competitions, including at club level, or in friendly matches.

This puts at risk their bid to qualify for next year’s World Cup in Brazil. Cameroon are currently second in Group I of the African section and must beat leaders Libya at home in their last match on September 6 to qualify for the final stage of qualifiers.

In addition, neither FECAFOOT nor any of its members or officials can benefit from any FIFA or CAF development programmes, courses or training during the suspension period.

As a part of the process a normalisation committee will be set up to revise the FECAFOOT statues and to organise new officers by March 31, 2014.

This follows the decision of the elections appeals committee to voiding the re-election of Iya Mohammed on June 19.

Mohammed had been arrested for embezzling money from state-owned Cotton Development Company.
