STOCKHOLM: The match Wayne Rooney missed saw Manchester United end their round-the-world pre-season romp with a 1-1 draw against AIK Solna.

AIK, third at halfway in the Swedish league, took an early lead through Robin Quaison early in the second half.

United, who had issued the image of Rooney’s comeback after injury to promote the match, levelled through Chilean Angelo youngster Henriquez who comverted a cross from Wilfried Zaha.

Speculation continued, in Rooney’s absence through a shoulder or leg injury last weekend, that the unsettled England forward was preparing to demand a transfer in pursuit of a move to Chelsea. The Europa League holders have already had two offers rejected.

United play FA Cup holders Wigan in the FA Community Shield at Wembley on Sunday.

Suarez missing

Another midweek absentee is Luis Suarez who will miss Liverpool’s pre-season friendly at Valerenga in Norway.

The unsettled Uruguay striker – subject of two failed bids from Arsenal this summer – will not travel with the squad to Norway as he undergoes a precautionary scan on an injury suffered in training.

Despite the reason for Suarez’s absence being made clear, the news is likely to fuel further speculation over the 26-year-old’s future.

The player has made clear his desire to leave Anfield in search of Champions League football and that has alerted Arsenal, who have made vain bids of £30m and £40,000,001.

Liverpool said: “Luis Suarez will remain on Merseyside as a precaution following an injury in training yesterday. He will undergo a scan on his foot later today.”
