MUNICH: Borussia Dortmund’s top-scoring Poland striker Robert Lewandowski is expected imminently to agree a pre-contract to join world, European and German champions Bayern Munich at the season’s end.

Media reports in the Bavarian capital claim that Lewandowski has agreed terms for a four-year contract after the free transfer which will follow the summer expiry of his contract with the Ruhr club.

FIFA transfer regulations permit a player approaching the end of his contract to undertake a formal agreement with a new club ahead of transfer time.

Lewandowski, a member of the Dortmund team beaten by Bayern in last season’s Champions League Final at Wembley, has scored 11 goals so far this season to establish himself as the Bundesliga’s leading marksman at halfway.

He attracted attention from clubs in England, Spain and Italy with his 22 goals in 2011-12 and 24 goals in 2012-13 but had always been considered most likely to follow ex-Dortmund team-mate Mario Gotze to Bayern.

Lewandowski had appeared to agitate for the transfer last summer but Dortmund refused to sell him and Gotze simultaneously.
