BRUSSELS: Belgium’s World Cup campaign has been given an additional boost with the decision of Manchester United starlet Adnan Januzaj to play for the national team also known as the Red Devils writes KEIR RADNEDGE.

National coach Marc Wilmots announced via Twitter the move by the 19-year-old talent who started out in the youth teams of FC Brussels and Anderlecht.

Wilmots said: “Got official confirmation that Adnan Januzaj has made himself available to wear Belgian colours for the rest of his career. Good news that such a talented player is available for Belgium.”

Januzaj was born in Brussels of a refugee Kosovar-Albanian family. His background made him eligible to play for all the nations to emerge from former Yugoslavia as well as Belgium. He could also have qualified, in time, for England were he to stay with United.

Belgium, with a host of outstanding young players, are considered one of the most intriguing European challengers at the World Cup in Brazil.

Wilmots will name his preliminary squad on May 13.
