Supported by the Government of Norway and the Football Association of Norway (NFF), the Norway Football Fields are implemented in cooperation with the Jordan Football Association (JFA) and Jordan’s Ministry of Education.

In two consecutive ceremonies, the Sareeh club and Mafraq school football fields were inaugurated by HRH Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein, President of Jordanian football and FIFA Vice President and Dr. Mohammad Thuneibat, Minister of Education respectively. Representing Norway at both launches was Mr. Per Omdal, Honorary President of the Football Association of Norway (NFF) and the Norway Football Fields Project Manager. The two events included football activities for young Jordanian and Syrian girls in both Mafraq and Sareeh.

“We are very appreciative to our colleagues and friends from Norway for their generous support in building and restoring football pitches in Northern Jordan. We enjoy a solid friendship with the Football Association of Norway and look forward to cooperating further in the future,” said Prince Ali.

“Football is a powerful medium to bring people together. We hope these fields will be utilized to the maximum benefit of our children and youth living in these communities,” added Prince Ali, who also chairs the Amman based youth and sport NGO, the Asian Football Development Project (AFDP).

“I am very happy to have witnessed the successful completion of the Norway Football Fields in Hay Olimat School for Girls and Sareeh Club today. We believe that football is for all; that is the basis of our support here in Jordan, especially in the north where Jordanian communities are hosting large numbers of Syrian refugees,” commented Mr. Per Omdal, Honorary President of the Football Association of Norway and the project’s manager.

Ms. Merete Munch of the Norwegian Embassy in Jordan commented: “I hope these fields will the source of many enjoyable everyday moments for both Jordanians and Syrians. I thank HRH Prince Ali and the football associations of Jordan and Norway for making this project possible.”The other Norway Football Fields include two in the newly opened Azraq Refugee Camp, one in Ramtha, two in the Za’atari Refugee Camp (inaugurated in November 2013) and another field in the Mafraq School for Boys, which is expected to be ready in June.
