PORTO ALEGRE: Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero will miss the rest of Argentina’s World Cup campaign after tearing a thigh muscle in Wednesday’s 3-2 win over Nigeria.

Agüero was injured after half an hour and was substituted immediately.

The World Cup disappointment is another injury upset for Aguero.

He tore a muscle in his right leg against Tottenham at the end of January, returned in March but then suffered a recurrence against Barcelona in the knockout stages of the Champions League.

A groin strain forced his substitutionm against Liverpool in April and then he was troubled by it again after scoring against Everton at the start of May.

This was the reason Argentina coach Alejandro Sabella did not risk Aguero in the team’s last pre-World Cup friendlies against Trinidad and Tobago and Slovenia.

Ezequiel Lavezzi of Paris Saint-Germain or Rodrigo Palacio of Internazionale will be his likely replacement up front alongside Leo Messi and Angel Di Maria.
