PARIS: French Sports Secretary Thierry Braillard has joined the furore over the weekend tunnel incident in which Bastia’s Brandao committed the headbutt which broke the nose of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Thiago Motta.

The incident occurred the game with Brandao waiting for Motta, butting him then running off back into the Bastia dressing room.

“This deserves a punishment,” said Braillard, calling Brandao’s action “scandalous, unacceptable”.

In the immediate aftermath of the incident, PSG president, Nasser Al Khelaifi called for Brandao to be suspended for life. However, later it appeared that neither PSG nor Motta wanted to press charges.

French police are reportedly not as reticent and are expected to open an investigation into the incident as will  the French league’s disciplinary commission.

Brandao, who last season was suspended for four matches after elbowing Yohan Cabaye in a match between his former club St Etienne and PSG, could face up to a 12-month ban for his latest indiscretion.
