LIMASSOL/NICOSIA: In a historic development emanating from the rapprochement of the two Cypriot football authorities, a Greek-Cypriot player has signed for a club in the Turkish-controlled north of the split island.

A ‘provisional arrangement’ was signed last November by the two federations after 58 years of separation since 1955. In February CTFA president Hasan Sertoglu opened up all Turkish-Cypriot football to  all players on the island.

Now Degirmenlik, second division club in the CTFA whose league competition resumes this weekend, have signed 27-year-old Dimitris.

Degirmenlik were assisted in the negotiations by Ali Imam, one of the footballers at the club who had played for Greek Cypriot teams for many years. Dimitris had played previously for Ermis Aradip, Omonia Aradip and Xeledimbo.
