MADRID: Zinedine Zidane, whose stellar playing career ended with a red card, risks starting his coaching career with a similar punishment writes KEIR RADNEDGE.

Last season the French former world and European champion worked as assistant to Carlo Ancelotti as Real Madrid landed a record-extending 10th European Champions Cup.

This summer Madrid approved Zidane’s vision for career by appointing him as coach to the club’s third division nursery club Castilla although he is still undertaking the essential coaching course.

However a formal complaint by the Spanish football coaching association that he lacks the formal qualifications for the job means he risks a suspension of up to six months by the federation.

In 2010 Alejandro Ceballos, coach of San Roque de Lepe (Huelva), was banned for six months for a similar offence.
