LONDON: The European league season has yet to end but the winner of the ESM Golden Shoe is already certain to be Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Real Madrid superstar took his total of league goals for the season to 48 with his hat-trick against Getafe on Saturday and thus ended another prolific Spanish season five goals clear of Lionel Messi, his only top-scoring contender.

Ronaldo has thus won for the second successive season and the fourth time in all.

Only goals in domestic regular season league competition count for the Golden Shoe.

Players’ goals totals are multiplied by a 1-2-3 ranking of the countries according to the UEFA Ranking of last July 1. That means the goals from numbers one (Spain) to five (Portugal) are doubled, goals from places six  (France) to 22 (Croatia) are multiplied by 1.5.

Goals in league tournament playoffs do not count.
