SEOUL: Argentina are considering an appeal against the expulsion of forward Lautaro Martinez in the weekend defeat by England on the opening day of the World U-20 Cup.

Racing Club youngster Martinez was dismissed by referee Mohammed Abdulla Hassan, from the United Arab Emirates, after taking advice from the video assistant following a 78th-minute incident.

Hassan ruled that Martinez, who had come on 18 minutes earlier as a substitute, had been guilty of deliberately elbowing England’s Fikayo Tomori who needed medical treatment on the pitch.

Argentina’s coach, Claudio Ubeda, said: “I don’t think that Lautaro intentional committed an offence. In any case, whatever the video assistant says, the referee still has the ultimate decision. We will study the pictures carefully and, if we think there is a doubt, we will appeal.”
