PARIS: French mega-spenders Paris Saint-Germain have completed the signing of Monaco starlet Kylian Mbappe on loan with the right to a formal purchase next year for around €140m.

This will make the 18-year-old the second most expensive player of all time after PSG’s purchase at the start of August of Brazilian superstar Neymar from Barcelona for €222m.

The loan transfer was announced on Twitter today by PSG but. in fact, was completed formally on Tuesday after Mbappe underwent a medical at Clairefontaine where he has been with the France squads preparing for the World Cup qualifier against Holland.

Mbappe, Neymar and Uruguayan centre-forward Edinson Cavani add up to an attacking trio on which PSG’s Qatari owners will rely to win the UEFA Champions League this season.

The loan conceit has been arranged so as PSG can fit its remarkable spending within the European federtion’s financial fair play regulations.

Mbappe’s return home to the French capital adds to the pressure on Spanish coach Unai Emery whose security was questioned last season after the failure to retain the French league title and the disastrous Champions League exit at the hands of Barcelona and, ironically, Neymar.
