MADRID: Spain is claiming a record attendance for a women’s club match after a crowd of 60,739 was recorded at the Estadio Metropolitano in Madrid for a match between Atletico de Madrid and Barcelona.

An Atletico statement said: “This is a world record attendance for a women’s club match.”

Barcelona won 2-0 with goals from Asisat Oshoala and Toni Duggan to cut Atletico’s lead from six to three points.

The previous record for a women’s club match was 51,000 to see Mexican sides Monterrey and Tigres in 2018.

Record attendance for any women’s game is 90,185 for the Women’s World Cup Final in 1999 in which the United States beat China 5-4 on pealties after a 0-0 draw in the Pasadena Rose Bowl.
