ZURICH: Uncertainty has been cast over the imminent formal opening of the summer transfer window by FIFA’s order of a worldwide suspension on agents Carmine and Vincenzo Raiola.
A statement said:
The chairman of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee has today decided to extend the sanctions imposed by the Italian Football Association (FIGC) on the intermediaries Carmine and Vincenzo Raiola to have worldwide effect.
Carmine [NB: known as Mino] Raiola is suspended for a period of three months and Vincenzo Raiola for a period of two months.
The decision of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee was notified today and takes immediate effect. For further information concerning the grounds of the sanction please contact FIGC.
Raiola, one of the world game’s most powerful agents whose clients include Manchester United and France midfielder Paul Pogba, was banned two days ago by the Italian federation.
His lawyer, Massimo Diana, is expected to request that the FIGC lift its suspension pending appeal.
Raiola said: “I think this may have had a bearing on the decision because they involved me in a story invented with art that I have nothing to do with. Law and justice should always prevail in a civil order and therefore I trust that soon everything will be clarified.”
